MMAMotion Exclusive Interview: Paddy Pimblett – “I can beat Søren Bak where ever I want to beat him”

Every so often a fighter comes along who embodies their city in a way that very few others do. Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett (14-2-0) is one of those fighters. Pimblett lives and breathes his city. He is Liverpool.

Pimblett has been synonymous with Cage Warriors for such a long period of time that it’s hard to believe that he’s just 23 years old. Since making his debut for the promotion as an 18-year-old bantamweight, he has gone on to perform under the Cage Warriors banner 11 times, capturing the featherweight title along the way, building an army of fans across the country and becoming, for many people, the face of Liverpool MMA.

News: Lee Chadwick defends middleweight Title against Jonas Billstein at CW96

Cage Warriors confirm World Champion Lee Chadwick will face surging knockout artist Jonas Billstein for the middleweight crown on September 1st at Liverpool’s Echo Arena – the second confirmed world title fight of the night, alongside eagerly anticipated Paddy Pimblett vs. Søren Bak.

In a massive fight that was due to take place at CW90 in February, but was postponed due to a training injury sustained by Chadwick, the two most powerful middleweights in Europe will finally meet later this year in front of thousands of fans at the Echo Arena with the world title on the line.

Last time Liverpool’s Lee Chadwick stepped into the cage at CW88, fans were treated to a back-and-forth middleweight war which saw him defeat Victor Cheng to become champion in his home city. This time around, Chadwick will come up against Jonas Billstein, who at just 26 years of age has picked up 10 knockout wins with 6 of those coming in the very first round.

Billstein, who travels from Germany in search of the away victory, will look to pry the belt away from Liverpool and establish himself as Europe’s middleweight King.

Chadwick, a 37-fight veteran of the sport, is no stranger to derailing younger challengers and seeks to cut Billstein’s rising status short in order to keep the belt.

“If one of these guys lands, it’s all over,” says Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan. “These are two of the most powerful guys in Europe, and without a doubt in the highest calibre of middleweights on the scene right now. We can’t wait to see how this one plays out.”

It’s a classic high-stakes match up between an established champion, who’s willing to leave everything in the cage in order to stay at the top, and a young, powerful up-and-comer with a string of first round finishes. Both men have the tools to end this one at any minute, and September 1st is the night they’ll put their game plans to the test. Only one man can leave the Echo Arena as champion. On paper, this fight looks to be one of the most entertaining bouts on a card that already boasts some great talent.

CW96 takes place just months after Cage Warriors champions and local Liverpool fighters Molly McCann and Chris Fishgold signed with the UFC, and 8 ex-Cage Warriors fighters competed at the history-making UFC Liverpool. 6 fighters have gone from Cage Warriors to the UFC already this year, proving the promotion’s claim as the number one destination for the best rising talent in Europe. September 1st will be one of the biggest nights on the European MMA calendar in 2018, building on what’s already the biggest year of MMA in Liverpool’s history.
